Jonah Chiarenza
Urban Designer
Jonah Chiarenza is an urban designer with a background in project architecture and regional planning focusing on green design. His academic and professional experience includes:
    • freehand drawing, graphic design, illustration and rendering for design and planning projects;
    • extensive research, writing and application of green infrastructure and resource planning;
    • development of interactive public outreach materials and presentations;
    • project leadership and group instruction;
    • digital film production and editing for planning projects and publicity materials; and
    • GIS mapping, AutoCAD, and 3-D rendering

Mr. Chiarenza’s abilities range from the detailed scale of architectural design to regional scale modeling and planning studies. As a designer at Worn Jerabek Architects, Mr. Chiarenza developed drawings, renderings, and models for a variety of mixed-use urban projects, including development in Prairie Crossing, a transit-oriented conservation community focused on sustainable practices in agricultural and habitat preservation and green stormwater management. He developed his knowledge and skills in environmental stewardship through recent design and planning internships and fellowships where he worked on regional green infrastructure and environmental planning projects.

His background in transportation corridors and street-design comes from study as an Eisenhower Graduate Transportation Research Fellow, where he learned about issues surrounding green infrastructure and highways, BRT, corridor development, and TOD; He has been able to apply these experiences to his work developing transportation and land use design visions for the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission in Charlottesville, Virginia. His broad professional and academic experience is unified by strong and expressive graphic abilities, and excellent written communication and editorial skill.
